We are going to make resin pendants out of the bead mess you see above! This will be so much fun!!
Your not believing me are you? Here's a skip ahead to the finished projects, we did many more, but just took a shot of a handful.
Pretty cute? Huh? |
Here are the things you will need to gather, before we begin:
1. Anything you'd like to put into your resin pendant. Above you can see we used Permanent Markers, sequins and some stick on rhinestone dots. The watch is another project we did, while we had the mess out and we'll talk about that in a minute.
2. Wax Paper! This will make a mess, PROMISE! But, a good one.
3. I used Medcine cups from when the kid were little, I know, why do I keep such things, for this exact reason! However, you could use disposable cups as well, these are to mix the varnish.
4. Well, the varnish, as shown above, this is the most important part. I have tried other varnishes and they just don't work. EnviroTex Lite. I put a couple of links for a couple of different sizes, because, I had a very hard time finding it myself! And, wanted to be sure the right "stuff" was used.
5. A Popsicle stick for stirring.
6. And, of course some of either part number 6541 or 6542 located at www.mobile-boutique.com.
7. Paper towel, just to be cautious.
8. A straw to blow out the bubbles.
And, I think we have it all. So, mix as the directions tell you and be sure to follow them very carefully!! If you don't, the finish will be tacky or have a sticky type texture, we want it good and hardened up, which usually takes overnight.
Here we are with the stirred mixture, some spilled glitter, all is good, it's on wax paper and in the corner, you can see what a mess this can become. I let it overflow and come back later and it breaks right off, nice and clean. Which is good to know, as I freaked the first time I tried this.
Also, there are going to be bubbled, LOTS of bubbles, when I first did this, I wasn't sure what to do, and it was scary. But, take a straw, after letting it cure for a bit, perhaps 15 mins or so and then blow on the tops, gently. The bubble's vanish right before your eyes!
For the pendants above, I used a Permanent Marker and one could write just about anything on these, draw up some designs little gems. They are so simple to do and it really doesn't take that much resin, so that's why the medicine cups came in quite handy!
And, well, you've seen the finished product.
Now, go to www.mobile-boutique.com and order up 6541 and 6542! And, start making some fun gifts, take them to the next craft show, they are so easy to make and this is a great way to spend time with the kids too!! Just keep them out of the resin!! That would be messy!
